Hotel rooms are multifunctional rooms: relaxing, working, watching TV, reading, sleeping, bathing and personal care are just a few of the activities that take place within a very restricted space. Like the room itself, the lighting must also cater for the individual needs of various users.
The all-inclusive lighting control package Like an all-inclusive package holiday, with its included central control unit and four CIRCLE CONTROL POINTs, the ZBOX offers a large number of conveniences and advantages: various lighting scenes can be created straightforwardly and dynamically – allowing a hotel room to be used in different ways. Guests reap the benefit of extremely flexible, functional lighting and the fact that it is easy and intuitive to operate. Optimum cost transparency at an early also makes this emotional, guest-orientated lighting concept attractive to designers, investors and hotel operators, too. The ZBOX’s compatibility with a modern building management system with presence detection, dimming of luminaires as required and control of shading systems also makes an intelligent contribution towards energy-efficient, low-cost operation of the hotel.
However, ZBOX applications are not exclusively confined to hotels – it was developed for any interior design concept that imposes special demands in terms of lighting such as, for example, domestic areas, care rooms, rooms in retirement homes and even smaller shops - basically for all areas where traditional bus systems are oversized and too expensive. ZBOX – the invisible key at the heart of individually tailored lighting scenes The central control unit, the ZBOX Controller, is adapted to meet guests’ lighting needs and hotel operators’ requirements equally: connectors for hotel smartcard master switches and door lock systems ensure a pleasant, inviting lighting scene as soon as the guest enters the room. Presence detectors, on the other hand, help save energy because the controller switches lights off automatically when the guest is not in the room. All outputs are isolated from the supply when the lights are switched off, and this results in considerable reduction in electrosmog emissions.
The ZBOX is installed in no time. Once the electrical wiring has been installed on site, the control unit, control points and luminaires only need to be plugged in. Project-specific on-site programming is only necessary if rooms are to be networked with each other and connected to a central server. The ZBOX has a total of nine connectors for luminaire groups, all of which are fitted with a DALI interface. Eight outputs can also be flexibly fitted with universal dimmers – even retrospectively. Besides blinds control, the facility to control a RGB+W wellness luminaire and a memory for up to 10 lighting scenes are built in. In this way, guests can store their individual settings and retrieve them on demand.
CIRCLE CONTROL POINT – doing away with the bewildering variety of switches Up to four CIRCLE CONTROL POINTs can be connected to the central control unit. Preconfigured to suit their respective positioning in the room and the guest’s lighting needs, they also come complete with appropriate icons and are fully pre-addressed. There is just one CIRCLE CONTROL POINT rather than a confusing number of switches and controls: in the entrance area, alongside the desk, by the bed and in the bathroom. Roughly the same size as a standard momentary-action on/off switch, it fulfils all the basic functions of a sophisticated control panel. Simple, intuitive operation is crucial to users, because guests who only stay one night quickly feel overwhelmed by too much technology in their room and do not use it. In contrast, using the CIRCLE CONTROL POINT, the guest can select one of three pre-programmed lighting scenes at the push of a button. When all the lights are switched off, the control point becomes a lighting object in its own right, with a discreetly lit red ring identifying the master switch. All CIRCLE CONTROL POINTs therefore remain visible in the dark to help guests find they way around.
