The LENI Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator is calculated in the context of an energy account according to EN 15193. In combination with the indicators for heating, air-conditioning, ventilation and hot-water preparation, it is used for calculating a building's overall energy consumption.
Non-European countries, too, have adopted laws for specifying energy consumption. Australia, for instance, with its Building Code of Australia.
All national standards, regulations and ordinances essentially pursue one shared objective: responsible operation of a lighting installation bearing in mind energy-consumption relevant considerations. To this extent, the calculated actual consumption in kilowatt-hours per square metre per year (LENI) is the common performance indicator.
Factors which have a positive effect on the energy balance:
sensible control of lighting
use of daylight
use of presence detectors
intelligently allowing for times when building is in use
energy-efficient lamps
appropriate-for-use luminaires and lighting solutions specified according to the relevant application
Zumtobel can provide appropriate data for actual planning in order to make allowance for correct reduction factors for the relevant lighting management.
