From Mozart to Picasso:
art and economic efficiency can be reconciled.

In situations where lofty architectural ambitions are to be fulfilled, the requirements placed on the component without which enjoyment of art and an impression of space are unimaginable are equally exacting: light plays a modulating, accentuating role in shaping our experiences. Light turns the room into a stage, presenting actors, works of art, designer objects and historical documents in an appropriate context. As soon as the last visitor leaves the room, the lighting also takes a creative break: in order to protect works of art against excessive light and guard against unnecessary energy consumption. A timebased control system that takes opening hours into account is especially convenient and effective. Daylight-based lighting solutions can be implemented at slightly greater expense but offer much greater potential savings.

Concrete measures:

  • fluorescent lamps with colour rendition index in excess of 90
  • using wallwashers, spotlights and asymmetrical downlights to selectively illuminate art objects
  • indirect light for rooms where there is little or even no daylight
  • using coloured LED luminaires to mark out routes
  • presence- and daylight-based control

In the Frieder Burda art museum's new building in Baden-Baden (Germany), light is a remarkably economical collage of natural and artificially generated brightness, which also protects works of art against daylight.

An old granary in the port of Würzburg (Germany) has been transformed into an impressive museum for modern art. Impressive but efficient lighting is provided by the specially developed WHITE PLANE pendant luminaire.
